wicked in whistler

It was only a few months ago that we decided to jump ship and head out of Switzerland. So everything has happened very fast. Arriving in Vancouver, picking up our bikes from Matt at North Shore Bike Shop and our Wicked Campers minivan and heading straight out to Whistler has felt like a bit of a dream.

Bling, bling & more bling!... and also our home for the next 5 weeks. I love bananas.

Whistler Bike Park is one the most well known in the world, offering everything from smooth, fast and flowy, too monster hits and steep gnarly lines. Michelle and Beat, had already spent 10 days getting to know the area, so we latched on and followed them down their favorite trails, which quickly became ours too.

Day 1 at Whistler no surprises: shredding with mates, misty views and bears.

It isn't always about adrenaline and speed. The forests here are epic ... huge dripping trees, giant green ghosts in the mist that tower over you all the way down the mountain. Squirrels and bears roam around looking for goodies (and slow riders).

Hook, line and sinker...

After seeing so many of the trails on films segments, it has been unreal to be behind the handlebar rather than the remote control: this is Simone and I on Lower Crank It Up, smiling all the way down.

Stepping it up: the ride in for this hit was a big step down. touching the brakes meant that you wouldn't get onto the lid.
Whistler being Whistler means that you don't only recognize the trails, but also the worlds best riders. Standing in the lift line we noticed Cam McCaul standing just in front of us, and Andrew Shandro the next day.

Sharing good times...

So after riding 3 days straight (and heading out for number 4) every muscle burns and brittle fingers still seem to grab for handlebars when not riding (death grip to the end), but we can't stop smiling. Looks like its gonna be a good trip...
